Rogers Wireless and Visto Launch MyMail Push E-mail Solution in Canada
Source: WebitPR - Posted April 27th, 2005 1:05 PM EDT

Rogers Wireless Inc. (TSX: RCI; NYSE: RG) and Visto Corporation today announced the availability of MyMail: a new wireless service that provides instantaneous, two-way push e-mail, calendar and contacts to a customer’s wireless device of choice.

“As Canada’s leader in the delivery of wireless data solutions, we strive to provide our customers with anytime access to information on the wireless device that best meets their needs,” said John Boynton, Vice President, Marketing, Segmentation Rogers Wireless Inc. “Visto Mobile has a powerful architecture that enables us to give customers the ultimate user experience with instantaneous, two-way access to e-mail, calendar and contacts – allowing them to stay in touch at any time with the people and the information that matters most to them.”

By simply downloading the MyMail application over the air to any MyMail supported wireless device, consumers and businesses using ISP email (also known as POP / IMAP or Internet email) will immediately be able to receive, send and synchronize their e-mail while away from their desk. Account activation and service setup can be completed directly from the device by visiting www.mymail.rogers.com. All that is required is a valid Data Service Plan from Rogers Wireless along with the e-mail address and password – MyMail takes care of the rest.

In addition to wireless email, Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino users will enjoy a fully synchronized, real-time, calendar and contacts experience via one of two methods:

1. Visto Enterprise Server (VES): IT Managers, familiar with “middleware” applications will appreciate the security and easy of installation offered by the VES. Acting as a behind-the-firewall solution enabling real-time delivery and synchronization of e-mail, calendar and contacts, the VES is a powerful, yet cost effective method of accessing mission critical information while out of the office.

2. Desktop Redirector Application: Customers in organizations where the VES has not been deployed can access their information by installing a small application onto their desktop PC. As long as the PC is left on and connected to the corporate infrastructure, this application will “redirect” in real-time, all e-mail, calendar and contacts to the wireless device. As an added feature, customers can delegate this functionality to another computer, allowing up to five users to access their information via one, always on desktop PC.

“Rogers Wireless is a pioneer in the mobile e-mail market and is at the forefront of delivering the services that all mobile users – from the large enterprise to the individual user – require to be ultimately more productive,” said Brian Bogosian, chairman, president and CEO of Visto Corporation. “Visto has the only mobile e-mail platform that helps operators like Rogers Wireless reach all ends of the market with the widest range of mobile devices. We are confident that our unprecedented device support, technology leadership with more than 22 patents worldwide, and commitment to the operator’s success will drive us toward becoming the leading global provider of push e-mail and personal information.”

Pricing and Availability

MyMail from Rogers Wireless, powered by Visto Mobile, is available immediately on the following all-in-one wireless handhelds: The palmOne Treo 650, the palmOne Treo 600 and the Audiovox SMT5600. Rogers Wireless expects to introduce new devices in the coming months compatible with the MyMail solution. Both the ISP email and Desktop Redirector MyMail solutions are included as part of a Data Service Plan – there is no additional cost for these services. The suggested retail price for the Visto Enterprise Server is $1999; however until August 31, 2005, Rogers Wireless customers can get the server for free.
